The Zone of Interest wint 2 Academy Awards op de Oscars

'The Zone of Interest' - dat zijn première beleefde op Filmfestival Oostende eind januari - ging tijdens de Oscars met een beeldje naar huis voor Beste Internationale Film en Beste Geluid.

Regisseur Jonathan Glazer's indringende werk won de Academy Award voor Beste Internationale Film, waarbij het de diepgaande thema's op een meeslepende manier aanpakt. Daarnaast werd de film ook bekroond met de Oscar voor Beste Geluid, waarbij het sublieme geluidsontwerp de emotionele impact versterkt.

In zijn acceptatiespeech benadrukte Glazer de noodzaak om verhalen te vertellen die de menselijke ervaring belichten en onrecht aan de kaak stellen, zonder het minder intens te maken:

Right now, we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation, which has led to conflict for so many innocent people — whether the victims of October the 7th in Israel or the ongoing attack on Gaza — all the victims of this dehumanization… how do we resist?

'The Zone of Interest' won op Filmfestival Oostende ook al binnen de LOOK!-competitie, die de creatieve visie achter de camera erkent.
